Key Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer on Visa’s Observability team, you will play a crucial role in building reliable systems that power the monitoring, automation, and scalability of Visa’s global services. You will work closely with developers, DevOps engineers, and system architects to ensure Visa’s systems are secure, high-performing, and resilient.
Design and develop the user interface (UI) and backend features for internal observability applications
Work collaboratively with senior team members to gather requirements and develop scalable solutions
Own the end-to-end performance, availability, and health of the observability infrastructure
Deploy, test, and monitor applications across development, staging, and production environments
Improve instrumentation across systems to enhance monitoring, alerting, and logging capabilities
Automate manual workflows to streamline operations and reduce human error
Support observability platforms and work on reducing bugs, outages, and other system failures
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to design and implement monitoring strategies
Stay updated with the latest observability trends and technologies and integrate them when relevant
Participate in on-call rotations, perform root cause analysis, and address system outages

Required Skills
Candidates must bring technical expertise, curiosity, and a passion for building reliable systems. The following core skills are necessary to excel in this role:
Strong programming skills in Golang or Java
Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including design patterns and clean code
Experience with developing full-stack applications with focus on reliability and performance
Familiarity with monitoring, alerting, and logging systems
Exposure to DevOps practices and working with development/deployment pipelines
Strong analytical skills and ability to debug, test, and optimize code effectively
Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and system integrations
Comfort with working in hybrid and cloud-based environments
Good written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and collaboration
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Skills
In addition to the required qualifications, candidates with the following preferred skills will be given priority consideration. These skills demonstrate a strong foundation in observability, infrastructure, and automation:
Experience using observability tools like Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Fluentbit
Hands-on experience with ClickHouse or other columnar databases for high-speed analytics
Knowledge of additional languages such as Python, C, or C++
Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools like Ansible
Experience with public and private cloud services like AWS, GCP, or Azure
Understanding of Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration platforms
Experience integrating applications with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows
Awareness of cybersecurity best practices for secure software development
Strong grasp on incident management and outage response processes
Interest in open-source monitoring tools and contributing to community-driven solutions
