Key Responsibilities
As a DBT Developer, you will play a crucial role in transforming large-scale data into meaningful, structured datasets that power analytics and reporting platforms. Your responsibilities include:
Design, build, and maintain efficient and scalable DBT pipelines for data transformation.
Translate complex business requirements into optimized SQL queries and DBT models.
Use DBT features such as macros, configurations, and materializations to modularize and streamline development.
Develop data models following best practices including naming conventions, documentation, and test coverage.
Perform data validation, quality checks, and debugging to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Work with stakeholders, data analysts, and engineers to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
Integrate DBT models with orchestration tools and participate in CI/CD deployments.
Conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and contribute to process improvements.
Collaborate with DevOps teams to ensure scalable deployment and performance tuning of data workflows.
Maintain documentation, contribute to standards, and support governance and compliance initiatives.
Required Skills
Minimum 3 years of experience in data engineering or analytics development roles.
Strong command of SQL, including advanced joins, window functions, CTEs, and performance optimization.
Hands-on experience with DBT (Data Build Tool) in a production environment.
Familiarity with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery.
Understanding of data modeling concepts like star schema, normalization, and denormalization.
Experience working in ELT or ETL environments.
Proficiency with Git and collaborative development tools such as GitHub or GitLab.
Ability to work in Agile development environments, contributing to sprints and standups.
Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills
Experience with data orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, or Azure Data Factory.
Knowledge of scripting languages like Python or shell scripting for automation.
Familiarity with Jinja templating used within DBT.
Experience integrating DBT with reporting tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for data workflows.
Experience working on cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Understanding of data governance, privacy, and compliance practices.
Contributions to open-source DBT projects or active participation in DBT communities.
