About the Role
Caterpillar Business Analyst Jobs are available in Bangalore for experienced professionals interested in business analysis, software product development and industrial technology. Caterpillar is hiring a Business Analyst to join the team working on MineStar Office, a large-scale mining fleet-management and autonomy platform.
The selected candidate will work as a bridge between business stakeholders, product owners, UX designers and engineering teams. The role involves understanding complex operational requirements and converting them into clear, testable requirements that support fleet management, equipment monitoring and geospatial visualization capabilities.
The position requires 6+ years of experience and is particularly suited to candidates who have worked in Agile/Scrum software development environments. Candidates should be comfortable creating user stories, acceptance criteria, functional specifications and process documentation while working with cross-functional technical teams.
The role is based in Bangalore, with Caterpillar stating a preference for candidates to work from the Bangalore PSN Office.
Key Responsibilities
- Elicit, analyze and document business and functional requirements from mining operations stakeholders, product owners and UX designers.
- Translate business requirements into structured user stories, acceptance criteria and functional specifications.
- Use Azure DevOps (ADO) for work-item tracking, backlog management and requirements traceability.
- Conduct gap analysis between existing business processes and proposed system capabilities.
- Facilitate workshops, stakeholder interviews and collaborative sessions with UX, engineering, QA and DevOps teams.
- Support Agile/Scrum backlog refinement and sprint planning activities.
- Ensure user stories are clearly defined, prioritized and supported by appropriate acceptance criteria.
- Collaborate with Angular 18 frontend and Java/Spring Boot backend engineering teams.
- Validate implemented functionality against documented business requirements.
- Work with teams using RESTful APIs and real-time WebSocket/STOMP messaging channels.
- Partner with QA teams to define test scenarios and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Maintain traceability between business requirements, user stories and test cases.
- Support functional parity requirements for both cloud-based web applications and on-premises Electron desktop applications.
- Analyze production issues and document their business impact.
- Work with engineering teams to identify root causes and communicate resolution timelines.
- Create and maintain process models, data-flow diagrams and feature documentation.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Analysis, Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience: 6+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or in a closely related role.
- Technical Skills: Azure DevOps, Agile/Scrum, requirements management, user stories, acceptance criteria, UAT and software development lifecycle concepts.
- Software Knowledge: Understanding of Angular, Java/Spring Boot, REST APIs and WebSocket/STOMP is relevant to the role.
- Testing Knowledge: Functional testing, BDD, Cucumber, Playwright, test scenarios and requirements traceability.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience or understanding of mining, fleet management, industrial IoT, telemetry or autonomous systems is desirable.
- Cloud & DevOps: Exposure to Kubernetes, Docker and cloud-deployed service architectures is desirable.
- Data Visualization: Familiarity with Deck.gl, Power BI or similar visualization tools is an advantage.
- GIS Knowledge: Understanding of geospatial concepts, coordinate reference systems and spatial queries is desirable.
- AI Knowledge: Basic understanding of AI and machine-learning applications in mining, fleet optimization and industrial automation.
- Documentation: Ability to create process models, data-flow diagrams, feature documentation and requirements traceability matrices.
- Communication: Ability to work effectively with business stakeholders, product teams, developers, QA engineers and DevOps teams.
