As a BI Engineer (Power BI) Specialist, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining powerful business intelligence dashboards and reports that enable actionable decision-making for global clients.
Develop, publish, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports based on business requirements.
Collaborate with business analysts, data engineers, and stakeholders to gather and translate requirements into technical solutions.
Build robust data models and implement DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) calculations to support KPIs and metrics.
Optimize Power BI reports for performance and scalability using best practices.
Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of data sources and reports.
Manage Power BI Service environments, including workspaces, gateways, and dataset refresh schedules.
Provide user training, documentation, and support to business teams for Power BI usage and best practices.
Work with teams in Agile/DevOps environments, actively participating in daily scrums and sprint planning.
Assist with the integration of Power BI reports with other platforms such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, or custom apps.
Continuously evaluate and adopt new tools and features to enhance BI solutions and delivery.
Required Skills
To succeed in this role, candidates must have hands-on experience in Power BI and associated tools along with excellent data handling skills.
Strong hands-on experience in developing Power BI dashboards, visualizations, and reports.
Proficiency in writing advanced DAX functions and Power Query (M language).
Good knowledge of data modeling techniques (star schema, snowflake schema).
SQL experience for data extraction, transformation, and querying across relational databases.
Familiarity with Power BI Service: managing workspaces, publishing reports, sharing dashboards.
Experience in handling large datasets and optimizing data refresh and report load times.
Attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Familiarity with version control tools like Git (optional but preferred).
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
Preferred Skills
While not mandatory, having these additional skills will be a strong plus.
Experience with Azure Data Services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics).
Knowledge of Power Platform: Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents.
Understanding of cloud BI deployments and integration with APIs or REST services.
Familiarity with Python or R for data analytics and automation tasks.
Experience in using other visualization tools like Tableau or Qlik (optional).
Awareness of data governance, privacy regulations, and compliance frameworks.
Background in Agile methodology and familiarity with DevOps practices.
Ability to create wireframes or mockups before building dashboards.
Business domain understanding in finance, healthcare, supply chain, or operations is a plus.
Participation in hackathons, open-source contributions, or published dashboards on Power BI community.
