Key Responsibilities

As a Space Planning Analyst at IBM Consulting, you will support data-driven decision-making processes related to consumer retail and space planning. You’ll collaborate with business teams to extract, analyze, and report data that enhances operational outcomes.

  • Extract and manage large datasets from retail and CPG databases such as NIQ, Circana, and Spins.

  • Clean, transform, and validate data to ensure accuracy and consistency for downstream processes.

  • Develop and automate reports using Microsoft Excel, VBA, and SQL for space planning and operational metrics.

  • Interpret raw data to create actionable insights for internal stakeholders.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver business-ready solutions.

  • Apply industry knowledge to enrich data interpretation, especially in consumer goods and retail space.

  • Support the visualization and reporting of performance data in scheduled formats.

  • Participate in business analysis discussions to assess requirements and support operational enhancements.

  • Identify opportunities for data quality improvements and process automation.

  • Ensure data confidentiality and compliance with corporate data standards and policies.


Required Skills

Candidates applying for this position should have the following foundational skills and qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Applications, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.

  • 1–3 years of experience in data analysis, reporting, or business intelligence roles.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, advanced formulas, and data cleaning techniques.

  • Working experience with VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) for report automation and macro development.

  • Strong command of SQL for querying relational databases and performing data extraction and manipulation.

  • Hands-on experience with retail or consumer goods data platforms such as NIQ, Spins, or Circana.

  • Ability to interpret complex datasets and translate them into user-friendly dashboards or summaries.

  • Detail-oriented with strong data validation, QA, and documentation skills.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working in a team-oriented environment.

  • Time management skills to balance multiple assignments and meet strict deadlines.


Preferred Skills

While not mandatory, the following qualifications and experiences are preferred and will enhance your candidacy:

  • A Master’s Degree in Business Analytics, Statistics, or Retail Management.

  • Experience in retail analytics, merchandising, category management, or space planning roles.

  • Familiarity with reporting tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Google Data Studio.

  • Knowledge of Python or R for data analysis or scripting.

  • Understanding of Agile methodology and experience working in agile-based projects.

  • Experience with data cleaning and transformation tools such as Alteryx or Talend.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms including IBM Cloud, AWS, or Microsoft Azure.

  • Prior experience in working with large datasets in a corporate or consulting environment.

  • Project experience in retail or CPG-focused digital transformation initiatives.

  • Ability to train others on tools, data workflows, or standard operating procedures.
