Key Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer at HGS, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality, performance, and reliability of software products. You will work closely with development teams, business analysts, and other stakeholders to identify and resolve issues. Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Requirement Analysis: Understand and analyze business requirements, technical specifications, and system designs to create effective test plans.

  • Test Planning: Develop comprehensive manual and automated test cases to cover functional, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing.

  • Defect Management: Identify, document, and track defects using tools like JIRA or Azure DevOps. Collaborate with developers to ensure timely resolution of issues.

  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams including developers, business analysts, and project managers to clarify requirements, reproduce issues, and improve overall software quality.

  • Automation Development: Build and maintain automated test scripts using modern tools such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright. Continuously update automation frameworks to enhance efficiency.

  • Agile Participation: Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives. Provide feedback and updates on testing progress.

  • Quality Compliance: Ensure adherence to company standards, best practices, and quality guidelines throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Reporting: Generate clear and concise reports on testing progress, defects, and risk assessments for management and stakeholders.

 

Required Skills

To succeed as a Software Engineer at HGS, candidates should have the following skills:

  • Strong understanding of software testing lifecycle and methodologies, including functional, regression, integration, system, and UAT testing.

  • Proficiency in manual testing and defect tracking using tools like JIRA or Azure DevOps.

  • Basic knowledge of automated testing frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright.

  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum processes, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and daily stand-ups.

  • Ability to analyze technical specifications and identify potential risks or gaps in software.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and logical reasoning skills.

  • Effective communication skills to interact with team members, developers, and stakeholders.

 

Preferred Skills

Candidates with the following skills will have an added advantage:

  • Experience in test automation and continuous integration (CI) tools.

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript for automation purposes.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.

  • Exposure to API testing and tools such as Postman or RestAssured.

  • Experience working with version control tools like Git.
