Key Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer at Nielsen, you’ll be instrumental in designing and developing key software applications that process and deliver rich metadata. You will work closely with a cross-functional team and contribute to the full software development lifecycle.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable and robust Java applications.
Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code in adherence to best practices.
Own the full software development lifecycle: from gathering requirements, design, coding, testing, to deployment and maintenance.
Develop software solutions for video, audio, automotive, and sports metadata products.
Troubleshoot and debug software issues, optimizing performance as needed.
Participate actively in agile ceremonies and sprints.
Stay updated with the latest trends in software engineering and media tech.
Work in a platform-first approach to ensure consistency and scalability.
Contribute to code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
Document system functionality and assist in creating technical documentation.
Required Skills
We are looking for a hands-on developer with solid computer science fundamentals, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for innovation.
Proficiency in at least one programming language: Java, Python, GoLang, C++, or SCALA.
Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles.
Sound knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
Experience working with distributed systems or microservices is a plus.
Familiarity with RESTful APIs and web services development.
Strong analytical and logical reasoning skills.
Hands-on experience with version control systems like Git.
Knowledge of software testing frameworks and debugging tools.
Good understanding of software security principles and practices.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly.
Preferred Skills
While not mandatory, the following skills will help you stand out and succeed in this role:
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Exposure to containerization tools like Docker or Kubernetes.
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps culture.
Working knowledge of databases: SQL and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra).
Prior experience in the media, broadcasting, or streaming industry.
Knowledge of metadata standards and content management systems.
Familiarity with agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
Ability to implement unit and integration tests.
Interest or experience in Data Science or ML is a plus.
Experience in performance tuning and application monitoring tools.
